Curriculum Area: Art

Curriculum Leader: Mrs M Bennett

Intent

Develop a broad and balanced curriculum that enables students to learn, recall and apply knowledge and skills across different contexts, supported by a robust and consistent approach to assessment. This will lead to successful and resilient lifelong learners who can cope in a range of changing contexts.

The biggest change for 2021/2022 to the Art department:

The curriculum in art will allow for all students, regardless of their ability, to thrive in their art lessons. Students will explore the cultural diversity of art and learn about how art has evolved through time. They will explore a range of art movements in a chronological order and be able to apply their knowledge and understanding of art and artists into GCSE and beyond. Reading and oracy will take pride of place in lessons and students will be able to use subject specific terminology with confidence.

What are we most proud of?

As a department we are proud of how our students mature into independent learners. The skill and abilities of our art students are second to none and they are encouraged to explore techniques that will secure and develop their knowledge, awareness and understanding of the arts, as a whole.  As Pablo Picasso once said, ‘Every child is an artist’ and this is something we truly believe at TQEA also.
